The Aurora Nova 1600SE is a 16-port asynchronous communications controller that enables up to 16 serial devices to be interfaced from one Sun SPARC® system SBus slot. It is ideal for connecting data entry terminals, printers, plotters, instrumentation feeds, modems, and other moderate throughput serial devices. It supports asynchronous data transfer rates up to 38.4 kbps, full duplex, simultaneously on all ports.

The Nova 1600SE is compatible with any SPARC workstation or server with SBus running Solaris® 2.3 or higher or SunOS 4.1.3 or higher. It offers many benefits over conventional Ethernet-based alternatives including higher throughput, reduced network traffic, conservation of CPU resources, easier installation and administration, and substantial cost savings.

Throughput ratings you can rely on

Aurora conservatively rates the throughput of its products based on all lines simultaneously driven, full duplex. Some competitors may rate their products based on maximum speed through one port, or at half duplex. Don't be fooled.

Interface options

The Nova 1600SE supports the RS-232 interface and is available with either DB-25 or RJ-45 connectors. RS-422 or RS-485 with DB-25 connectors is optionally available, at an additional cost.

High performance and reliability

On-board RISC processors off-load communications processing from the host CPU. Dual-ported data buffers assure data integrity by maintaining consistent throughput on all ports.

On-board flow control

On-board flow control provides immediate response to system requests without requiring host system intervention. Software flow control is provided on all ports. Hardware flow control is provided on 12 ports.

Fourth generation device drivers

Hardware is only as efficient as the software that governs its operation. Aurora device drivers are designed from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of the SunOS and Solaris environments. They have been precisely engineered to assure efficient I/O processing, flow control, and resource management. General-purpose device drivers are no match.
